This week on Alternative Rock Radio, its FIRST week on bringing you your very own mixed tape via podcast, we have a very special show for you! We’ll be featuring local music by Phantasm, Stephie Coplan, Streight Angular and Parlour Bells to name a few! After that, we will have new/newer music by Tegan and Sara, Cults, Mona, and MS MR!
In case you missed the show tonight here is the list of all the songs and artists that made the cut! I know I said it wasn’t a countdown, and it’s not, BUT if I had to pick a number one it would be Chained by: The XX. Watch the video here and you’ll understand. It’s one of those songs you feel down in your bones.
It’s hard to believe that 2012 is coming to a close but it’s been an unforgettable year not only for national music, but for the Boston local music scene as well. Alternative Rock Radio will be having a special Best of 2012 show this Wednesday from 7-9pm on UNRegular Radio UNCENSORED.
Below are just a few of the tracks that made the list and will definitely be remembered for years to come. This year also marks the comeback of the formally lost music video as well. So while you anxiously await the results of who made the list and who didn’t, we leave you with a tease of five of our favorites below in hopes it will satisfy you in the meantime.
Closer – Tegan and Sara
Tegan and Sara started out with a folky, power acoustic sound but have grown into an energetic, power synthpop duo. You can’t help but grin ear to ear and feel a little dirty when listening to “Closer”, the first single off their upcoming album Heartthrob which is slated for a 2013 release.
Chained – The XX
There’s no surprise that The XX made the list this year with their second album, Coexist dropping this year. It was difficult to choose between, “Angels” a song about truly being irrevocably and undeniably in love, and “Chained” a song expressing deep concerns about the ever-changing relationship dance we all do. After watching the breathtaking and mesmerizing music video for “Chained” it makes the list without question.
Bloody Mary (Nerve Endings) – Silversun Pickups
Silversun Pickups captivated you with their newest album, Neck of the Woods this year with it definitely being their darkest by far, and “Bloody Mary (Nerve Endings)” stands out as a particularly mysterious track. Picture this, you’re in the middle of a forest at sunset, lost, scared, and you start walking. You swear the trees are whispering as they tower over you. There’s not a soul in sight, just the crackling of the branches and leaves at your feet, THIS song would be the title track. Neck of the Woods moves together so well that it’s hard not to always listen to it in its entirety. It’s your very own hauntingly musical tale.
Hurricane – MS MR
“Hurricane”, a synthpop track with sultry female vocals, is the first single off MS MR’s EP Candy Bar Creep Show and the music video hypnotizes you with countless Tumblr photos from the ‘90s
Baby It’s Cold Outside – Four Point Restraints
Four Point Restraints made the list this year as one of the Best of 2012 on Alternative Rock Radio, not with this haunting holiday cover, but with a song off their EP Mercy which came out earlier this year. You’ll have to listen in and see which track made the list!
Stayed tuned this Wednesday night for the special Best of 2012 Alternative Rock Radio show that will feature local and national artists to sum up a year of unforgettable music!
