Five

Justin Timberlake hosted and performed on SNL last night for the 5th time and didn’t disappoint, bringing back some of our favorite sketches he and other favorites have played over the years. During Timberlake’s monologue we were taken back to the “Five-Timers Club” with guest starts Steve Martin, Dan Aykroyd, Martin Short, Alec Baldwin, Tom Hanks, Chevy Chase, and Paul Simon who definitely provided some laughs. Steve Martin definitely emerged as the star of the sketch with his comical demeanor and flawless delivery.

 Date Show

Our favorite “Dick in a Box” duo, Andy Samberg and Justin Timberlake serenaded us during “It’s A Date”. Then we were mildly creeped out by our “Wild and Crazy Guys”, Dan Aykroyd and Steve Martin. It was quite entertaining to see these duos on the same stage singing and dancing as the sketch concluded.

Bring it on down to “Vegan Ville”! Timberlake’s music background shines in this sketch as he tries to convince you to go vegan through a number of different renditions of well-known songs. If that’s not enough he does it all dressed as a huge piece of tofu.

I’m not going to lie and say I watch the show every week, I don’t and haven’t in a long time. It was bittersweet to watch this week’s because while Timberlake did a phenomenal job as well as all of guest stars, that was the best part. The new sketches overall were moderately clever but none of the new sketches were comparable to past sketches. “Weekend Update” and SNL commercials are the only two that continue to hold up despite the change in cast and writers. “Nuva Bling” and “Romantic Comedy” were especially amusing. Of course there are always one or two sketches that pleasantly surprise me but they are fewer and farther in between than ever before.
